Woodworking Course

Join Ben Maxted for three sessions designed to introduce and encourage beginners and those at intermediate level. These sessions include Sharpening Tools, Carving and learning the skills of Wood Finishing.

Ben Maxted has been carving and sculpting wood all his life as part of his profession as a Forester and is a qualified instructor with many years of experience at home, in Africa and Asia. Ben has also taken private commissions for sculptures, name plates, furniture, carvings as well as tutored on courses.

Session 1: Sharpening Tools - Learn to sharpen and care for your tools safely so you can make the best of them and make the most of your woodcarving skills. 12 March, 10.30am - 1.30pm

Session 2: Carving - Learn carving techniques so you're able to fashion your own 3D object. Be adventurous as you like and come with a prepared idea/ image. Participants will be supplied with materials and tools. You need good eyesight and natural dexterity, but don't need previous experience. 19 March, 12.30pm - 4.30pm

Session 3: Wood Finishing - Following Ben's methods, transform a piece of wood into a thing of beauty in this final workshop. 26 March, 10.30am - 1.30pm

Materials and tools are provided, but you may use these sessions to start/ continue with an existing project and bring your tools along to sharpen.
