Reach Young People Through Creativity  - Giant Processional Structures

This course will enable practitioners and support staff to engage young people and promote personal development through teamwork, collaboration, problem-solving, practical skills and creative expression.  Giant puppets also benefit the community by giving scope for young people to participate in a positive and valued way in community events such as festivals, parades and carnivals.

The student group will build a giant puppet suitable for a performance. The course will teach the practical skills needed as well as giving a direct experience of co-operative working.

The course will explore:

• development of ideas from different sources
• planning
• basic theory and practical techniques
• materials and resources
• operating the giant puppet
• health and safety
