What is sustainable tourism?

Sustainable tourism recognizes the growing and continuing importance of tourism to rural areas whilst trying to ensure that the key tourism assets; the natural heritage and the communities that inhabit such places can survive and thrive alongside tourism’s continued growth.

Who are we and why are we developing this project?

Small World Theatre is an Arts and Culture for Development organization. We use arts activities and other cultural forms to help people transform as individuals and as a community and to take charge of their own development.

We intend through this project to address some of the key challenges of sustainable tourism through providing and hosting a range of activities at our centre in Cardigan whilst also publicizing the activities and events of other local tourism providers by means of this website.

Our website is bilingual offering contributors the chance to provide content in both of Wales’s languages.

How are we sustainable?

Our home in Cardigan is Small World Centre a new building that incorporates a range of energy efficient and environmentally friendly technologies including a sedum growing roof, solar water panels, a rain water harvesting tank, an air source heat pump and recycled slate.

We at Small World Theatre aim to provide activities and host events that encourage the use of renewable resources. Examples of such events include driftwood sculptures, recycled fashions and food foraging.

What you can do to be part of this site

We want to create a network of visitors to this site who are happy to share information about what’s great to do in the lower Teifi valley whilst also raising awareness about key sustainable tourism issues such as the impact of tourism transport, the minimizations of resource use and waste and respect for the natural and cultural heritage.

This project has been funded by the Welsh Assembly’s rural development plan.
