AN EXHIBITION OF PAINTING AND POETRY AT SMALL WORLD THEATRE
This is a collaborative project between poet Deryn Rees-Jones, artist Zoe Benbow, The Poetry Society and Small World Theatre.
This is a new collaborative exhibition showing at Small World Theatre running from 9 November to 21 December.
This exhibition of drawings and paintings centres mainly on an exploration of the coastal landscape of County Mayo. Working in dialogue with the pictures are poems that explore the hospitality and intimacy of the landscape, questioning the construct of the wild, and focussing on the liminal energies of the place where land meets sea. The conversation that ensues sees landscape as a place where, as with fractal geometry, the small detail looks always to the bigger picture.
Water, sky, earth, coast. No landscape exists out of context: like anything else landscape is as subject to the effects of time, culture, power, ownership and ecology as it is to its poetical, historical and gendered constructions.
The exhibition continues until 21 December. Its FREE entrance to the exhibition and the public opening times are Tuesday - Friday 10am - 4pm
Zoe Benbow and Deryn Rees-Jones will also be exhibiting at the Poetry Café, Covent Garden, London as part of this project, dates to be confirmed.
